All the foreigner
travels need visa for traveling in India, along with valid passport
issued by the authorities from the home country. It is essential for
tourists to carry their passport all the time with them for the purpose
of identification however this is not compulsory for the citizens of
Nepal and Bhutan.
Indian embassy or consulate in various countries are the
sources for getting Visa.
Tourist visa is valid for 180 days and costs US$ 40 only. There is
provision of multiple entries but is non extendable. This also helps in
simplifying entry to the neighboring countries to India.
If
you are traveling in the group of four or more and your tour is
organized by recognized travel agent you can go for a collective Visa.
The relative rules and procedures are
1.
It is essential to submit the detailed list [four copies] and passports
of all the members of the group, to the Indian authorities in that
country at least three days before the scheduled departure to India.
2.
After the necessary checking a collective visa along with three copies
of the list, [two copies of this, to be handed over to immigration
officer in India] will be issued. It is not essential to stamp
individual passports in this case.
3.
If you are willing to split your group for the purpose of visiting
different parts of India, It is essential for you to get "License to
travel" for the members of each sub group from the Indian immigration
authorities.
4.
If you are from the tourism trade you can get a visa extended up to 5
years. In this case within the 14 days of your arrival in India
registration is compulsory.
