Among
the Rock cut or cave temples of India, about 90 km from
Bhubaneshwar Orissa situated Jain cave temples of Udaigiri
holds a significant place. It is believed that construction of
these cave temples was done in 2nd century BC as in the Hathi
Gupha at Udaigiri there is an inscription in Palli language
referring to King Kharvel (166 BC to 153 BC).
In the Khandagiri caves Tirthankaras Cave, Akshay Ganga, Gupta
Ganga, Shyam Kund and Radha Kund are more famous where as Rani
Gupha and Hathi Gupha of Udaigiri are prime tourist
attraction.
