World's
one of the finest rock structure & ancient monument of the
world displaying paintings of the Mesolithic Period is
situated near Bhopal, capital city of Madhya Pradesh in dense
hilly forests of Vindhyanchal region. The site which is on the
World Heritage site List of UNESCO was discovered by V. S.
Wakankar , who in fact discovered over 700 rock shelters in
the region including about 240 around the Bhimbetka.
Most of the red, yellow and green coloured paintings of this
group of five natural rock shelters are displaying Musical
instrumental play, dance actions, hunting, elephant and horse
riding along with tribal activity of collecting Honey. This
might be surprising fact that all this life style has a very
close resemblance with the life style of natives of the
surrounding area.
