Qutub
Minar is yet another famous historical Indian monument
situated at capital city Delhi which is on the World Heritage
Site list of UNESCO since 1993.
foundation stone for this heighest [72.5 meters] towering
building was laid down by Qutbu'd-Din Aibak in the year 1199
but he was able to construct only first storey [25 mts in
height] of the building which was designed for Ajan [giving
call for gathering for prayer]. Construction work was
completed by Shamsu'd-Din Iltutmish [1211-1236] his successor
and son-in-law. There is nominal entrance fees for the
domestic visitors where as the foreign tourists have to pay
around US$ 5 for entering the monument area.
