Present
about 200 meter high temple with about 33 million cravings was
constructed by Trimula Nayak towards early period of 17 the
century. This is the wedding place of God Shiva [Sundereshwara
- Lord of beauty] and Goddess Meenakshi. Temple with 12
gopur [gates] and 4 towers is live illustration for
excellent South Indian temple architecture. Golden idols of
deities are placed at Oonjal Mandap near to which
Swarnapushpakarini [Golden Lotus tank] is situated, pilgrims
have to take bath in it before entering the temple. Famous
1008 brass oil lamps are situated at construction with 110
pillars Astha Shakati Mandapa [also known as Meenakshi
Nayakkar Mandap]. Yalli- figures of animal with lion
body and elephant head are making more scenic to this
beautiful sculptures associated with Lord Shiva. Teppam
Festival is among the most famous festival celebrations of
Meenakshi Temple.
