Hampi,
the capital city of famous Vijayanagar kingdom from the
medieval age. The ruins of these marvelous ancient Dravidian
architecture are spread over an area of about 26 sq. km. The
site was glorified with inclusion in the list of World
Heritage Sites by UNESCO in the year 1986 though since 1999
the site is declared as World Heritage in danger. Historically
Hampi was the near city of Kishikandha in the Ramayana era.
Virupaksha Temple, Vithala Temple [famous for musical pillors],
ornate stone chariot, Lotus Mahal and Queen's Bath are the
prime tourist attractions of the site.
