This
historic city, which dates back to 850 AD, time of Cara Kings
and renowned as the place of cultivating Turmeric and
producing power loom textile in the form of Towels, Bed sheets
and Lungis for the consumption in local markets and exports.
City gets name from "Eara Odu" meaning wet skulls. According
to Puranas, Dakshyayini daughter of Daksh Prajapati was
married with Lord Shiva. Once Prajapati decided to perform a
Yagya but didn't invited Lord Shiva for this, Dakshyayini went
to father's house for this occasion even was not invited.
During Yagya this happen that Prajapati insulted Lord Shiva
and for this Dakshyayini jumped into yagya kund for being
turned into ash. Lord Shiva came there in anger and threw
every one into near by river Kaveri. Bones and skulls of all
including Brahma become wet and thus this place is known as "Eara
Odu". |
